Problems with Using Light Steel Roofs

When it was first discovered, lightweight steel roofs were usually used on large buildings. However, now lightweight steel roofs are starting to be widely used in residential homes. The reason is because the wooden material used as a roof frame is starting to become expensive and the quality is no longer good.

The weakness of light steel roofs does not lie in the material itself but in human resources. Mistakes that often occur include installing a slanted frame mount. If the stand is tilted, the pressure force on the steel becomes less balanced. In the long term, this problem can affect the construction so that the roof can collapse.

Apart from that, there is the installation technique. Installation of a light steel roof is a system consisting of several elements that influence each other. It is best to make working drawings and load strength calculations before installing the steel. Usually this steel installation is handed over to people who have special certificates because the calculations use a 3D system.

Steel is known as an anti-rust material as long as the anti-rust layer is not lost. The cause of the loss of this anti-rust layer is accidental installation of the roof tiles. Therefore, install the tiles carefully to avoid collisions with the steel.

Mountainous and coastal areas have a big influence on the lifespan of a steel roof. Steel roofs used in mountainous areas can last up to 20 years. Meanwhile, steel roofs used in coastal areas only last up to 10 years due to the high level of corrosion caused by salty sea water.
