How to deal with tile roof corrosion

When the rainy season arrives, roof leaks will definitely be something annoying because apart from water entering our house or room, the roof frame and ceiling frame of the house will experience weathering if this happens continuously. Before taking action to repair a damaged roof, we need to know the cause of the damaged roof covering (tile). In general, damage is caused by several factors, namely

1. Age problem

This problem is closely related to the material that makes up roof tiles. Because it does not meet the criteria for a good roof covering, over a certain period of time the roof tiles become cracked, crumbled, porous, creating gaps in the roof, or the roof tiles break easily even during installation, because they are stepped on by the installer.

2. Falling objects can also cause roof tiles to be damaged, especially if the tile material is fragile, not strong. Exposed to shocks or strong winds (natural conditions). Moss that appears on the roof tiles can also cause the roof tiles to crack easily and cause water seepage. The way to overcome this is to find the source of the damage. If the damage is light and only partial, there is no need to repair the whole thing, only the damaged part, for example some of the roof tiles are broken, can be replaced with new ones.

What you must pay attention to if you have carried out renovations/repairs on the roof of your house so that the same mistakes don't happen again are: Don't make careless and inappropriate repairs, this will cause long-term leaks because they are temporary and are not a solution to the leak problem.

Patch leaking metal roofs using the right tricks

Roof leaks are caused by the nature of metal which easily corrodes/rusts due to age or other causes. Corrosion often occurs at the ends, also at the joints between roofs and also above the curtains, namely around the screws. If there is even a small leak, if left unchecked, corrosion will quickly spread and spread. This will result in bigger leaks or even the zinc will collapse.

If there is a leak in the roof, the easiest and most practical way is to replace it with a new one, but this will be quite expensive, but if we are willing to bother a little by patching it properly, the leak will be resolved, patching it with the right method can last around 2 years.

Now we prepare the ingredients, namely:

- Waterproof liquid/solution (known on the market as no drop, plintkote, nipon elastex and others)

- Fiber (met 455) is widely available in building stores

- HCL solution (available at chemical stores, if not available, you can replace it with caustic soda dissolved in water)

- Iron paint

How it works:

- Clean with a wire brush the surface of the zinc to be patched, discard any that is crumbly

- Then clean with HCL solution

- After it is completely clean and dry, paint it with iron paint

- After the iron paint is dry, coat it with waterproff and coat the fiber really evenly

- Then paint again with iron paint, you can adjust the paint color to the color of the zinc

Good luck!
