Tips for Flood Resistant Houses

There are many considerations when we want to own a house, especially in Indonesia, one of which is to protect the house from flooding. You can try the following tips on flood-resistant house design:

1. House foundation

The foundation height ranges from 40-50 cm above the road in front of the house. The land is filled with a minimum height of 50 cm above the road. Make sure the yard and carport are higher than road level.

2. House height

Make sure the height of the core of the house is above the maximum height of any flood that has ever occurred. At least higher than the surface of roads, rivers or other waterways.

3. House floor height

Make sure the distance between the floor and ceiling is not too close, namely the ceiling height is around 2.8 – 3.2 meters. You can also make a blockade around the terrace. The risk could reduce the aesthetic value of the building.

4. Make a fish pond

Make a fish pond in the garden of the house. However, the pool is only able to withstand light flooding. The risk is that you will lose your fish if the flood comes.

5. Check the rest of the house

Make sure the septic tank, drainage channels and electrical installations are in an area that is free from flooding.
